No words

I've written here when I was bereaved, lost, bored, amused, angry and probably with every emotion I could possibly draw on.  Today, I know how I feel, but I don't know how to describe what I feel.

I can't get the picture of  Aylan Kurdi out of my head, I can't stop thinking about what the Kurdi family is going through, I can't stop feeling ashamed of myself for "supporting" the idea of a kinder immigration policy in Canada but not actually doing anything.

I often have black days for which there is only a neurological or emotional reason, but this black day is one I have to make up for.  I don't know exactly what I'll do but I will take action, even if it's only providing money to the group best suited to making a difference.  But really, that's not enough.

If you're aware of something local (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) that I can become an active part of, please let me know.

  1. I think you will do the biggest thing that you can do -- vote for a more compassionate government.

  2. I've emailed my MP this morning, and I imagine lots of people are emailing theirs and making phone calls. I'll make a donation somewhere when I get back from the wedding I'm travelling to this weekend. I don't know what else to do, but I feel as you do; I want the government to take action immediately and I wonder why it hasn't long before this. There seems to be a disconnect between what the public wants and what the government thinks it wants. I guess a majority government would naturally have the idea that the public wants what the gov't wants, wouldn't it? What a mess we're in. The fact that the Cons have been in office this long really makes me despair. Who are these people who voted them in, twice? Rotten ... Denmark ... .

  3. Lorna, I think most Canadians have been very touched by what's going on in Syria, Iran, Turkey and Europe. I hope more of us believe compassion is more important than the economy.

  4. I am hoping we're moving toward something, but the flood gates haven't exactly opened yet, have they? We are such a fortunate country that of course we need to be welcoming as many as we can. I'm no fan of church as you may know, but in the little research I've done on how to help, that's the best that I've discovered - a few local parishes that are adopting refugee families, so I can contribute to that, at least. But what else?
