Attaining a significant age

Tomorrow is a significant birthday for me.  In fact, I guess, every birthday, once you've reached cronedom, is a significant one.

We had a little brunch with the family for which Dave provided us his famous Applesauce Pancakes made instead with raspberries, which are my favourite among the berries.   The pièce de résistance was a dark, dark chocolate cake, the whole top of which was festooned with the right amount of candles.  Scary in so many ways!

My gift from the family was an IPod Nano, which I have been craving, so that I can walk and listen to music and audio books.  The getting of the thing for which I craved is also scary in so many ways, but at least using it does not (I hope) lead to setting off smoke alarms.

On my birthday, I always think of my mum, only 20, having a baby at home in a small village in England during the war, and I feel so thoughtless for having decided to make my entrance at a time when she probably had other things on her mind.

Ah, the randomness of life.

  1. Happy Birthday, Lorna. Yes, as I get older I wonder at that randomness.

  3. Happy Belated Birthday, Lorna! You are one of my favourite bloggers and I hope you will continue to entertain me until you turn 100 and well beyond.

  4. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! In recent years I also reminisce about the random events of life. What would have been my life if my parents had not desired a first child, and could not have one after trying for 10 years?

What would have happened if my birth mother had decided NOT to relinquish her child, because the father would not marry her? (By the way, I know and have good relations with my biological family.)

What if I had married somebody else 43 years ago?

  5. You can tell I just crawled out from under a rock. I missed your birthday, but it sounds like Dave and your family made it a happy one.
