Down and Up, Christmas-wise

SO ho!ho!
Celebrating Christmas is better some years than others.  This year, none of the Barrie family will be here with us, for various, mostly work and weather-related reasons.  I'm going to have to task someone with the Bah! humbugs! as Doug won't be here; Chris and Phoebe can ignore me form Barrie instead of the living room and I won't have to worry about whether or not the coffee is strong enough for Sean.  Still, it would be so much nicer if they were here.

To sort of make up for the missing family, I went down to the market this morning and had a chance to feel the real Canadian Christmas Politeness Marathon.  It was snowing and no one was complaining about how the potential Christmas presents for sale outdoors were all blanketed in white; people were lining up for BeaverTails with such courtesy and being serenaded by carollers in sequinned miniskirts; the chorus of "Oh, excuse me!" was providing a wonderful background noise as I was trying to choose amazing earrings for my daughters and being occasionally bumped by someone's green present carrier.  I think the best one of all was that, seeing I was devouring a book on my e-reader while waiting for the bus, a charming man in a fur hat kept calling out the route numbers as the busses pulled up to the station.

Again this year, one of the ways I've celebrated Christmas, and honoured anybody who reads here:  I give a donation in your collective names to Children's Literacy.

Have a happy and safe holiday, and a Merry Christmas, Happy Chanuka, Happy Kwanza or Happy Tolerance of the Goings-on.

  1. I guess the Christmas spirit has engulfed Ottawa, but too bad about your lack of company. All the best. We'll be cooking a few things today and then heading over to Sha's for Christmas Eve.

I was momentarily flabbergasted by the AC is On link at the left until I remembered that someone picked up my previous domain.
