Growing up

Maddy faces the morning

Robyn is a child who chooses her own clothes---I love her style!

What I'm noticing today as I post the photos of our youngest darlings, is that as your grandchildren grow up, your opportunities for spending time with them fade.  It's as it should be, but it makes me sad.  It's as it should be, but I'm not ready for it.

I wasn't ready for it with my children either, although it was entirely out of my hands, and not unpleasant. More like a slow fade in a western movie.  Bittersweet because working with them to be independent and their own selves was satisfying and so "grown up" for us as parents, but although I believe in the principle, the reality sucks.  No, that's strong; the reality makes you boringly nostalgic.

  1. Too true. We must enjoy it while we can. We will remember even if they won't.

  2. Definitely a bittersweet change, isn't it, from the years they are so intensely involved with us and living at home. Love the pics.

  3. Not being able to have children of my own I always loved when my cousin's children would come to visit for a week each summer. Now that they have a new baby sister and have started to hit the "teens" (oldest will be 13 in dec), we aren't as much fun for them as when they were little. I really miss getting to visit with them but I guess that is just how it goes as they get older. :-(
