Victoria Day

Today I was of course reminded of Queen Victoria.  I always had a grudging admiration for her, but it was tinged by the hold Prince Albert seemed to have over her.  Until fairly recently, I thought I was justified.

Over the last couple of years, I've read things about her that seem to negate the impression I had that she sort of gave herself up for her husband, both before and after his death.

I'm starting to look on her as the early version of myself.  Not the rich and royal part, the wise looking-for-counsel-in-all-the-right-places  part.  And by the way, that goes for the possible Mrs Brown part of her life.

Not that I have a Colour-Sgt Brown in my life, but I wouldn't see it as anything but an enhancement.  The poor woman lived more of her life a widow than a wife.

Now if I had a Disraeli, I might be tempted to restrict my availability.

  2. I admired Queen Victoria as reigning in an unique time in history. I vaguely remember reading a story or book of her life.

    Being royalty is not easy.

And then I was amused our Prez made 4-5 faux pauxs at the state dinner Queen Elizabeth honored him with. He would be horrified he committed one of the same protocol mistakes that his nemesis, Pres. George W Bush made on a similar occasion. I don't think Obama has protocol on his high priority list.
