dispatches: July 2,2012, 3:52 a.m.

Another Canada Day behind us!  Almost.  There are people out in the courtyard singing; they are singing very nicely, and I was already awake, so it's nothing I would complain about.

For each of the 3 years we've been in this apartment for Canada Day, I have been amazed at the number of people who stroll past, in both directions, dressed in red and white, from the time we wake up until long after we go to bed.  There are red and white splashes against the green of the park just east of us, red and white clad eaters of ice cream bars, red and white flags bobbing along both on peoples' heads and on their cars, and every once in a while, we see dogs with red and white bandannas tied around their necks.

I am a proud Canadian, but I stood outside, valiantly, in my yellow pants and black and yellow shirt.  I did take turns drinking red and white wine though.  I could do this because I knew I could count on Captain Canada to stand up for my rights.
