And the answer (both times) is NO

I have had a cold since before Christmas.  Not really a cold.  I have had a malevolent, persistent, achey, stuffy, oh-you-think-you-got-rid-of-me? cold.  For a couple of weeks, I just had some good days, when I could do stuff like a crazy person for about 4 hours in the day and some bad days, when I sat down with a book at 2 and woke up, grizzled and nasty around 7.

Since the end of December, I have been in bed almost every day, all day and all night.  It makes me think back to when my kids were small and I used to hope I could get some mysterious disease that didn't hurt, didn't have any long-term effects and would let me stay in bed for two weeks.  It was a pipe-dream back then, for which I carried a lot of guilt.  It's a disaster now, and strangely, the guilt is still there.  At least this time, there's a good reason.

Dave has been so good, so thoughtful and generous that I'm going to have to live on into my 90s to pay him back.

I've been doing nothing---I read my emails and am relieved when there's nothing that needs an immediate answer, I sit through movies, the names of which I can't remember, (except for the Bette Davis ones), even though the washer and dryer are right beside my bedroom, I take all day to do something I usually breeze through, sort to fold, in about 2 hours.  I don't remember when I washed my hair last, although the way it's sticking up makes me think 4 or 5 days, and I haven't spoken on the phone for weeks, except frantically by accident when I'm sleeping.

All that leads me to two questions:

Did we used to have sneaky crappy health like this in the good old days?

Does a gorgeous dragon and unicorn card have anything to do with this cold?

  8. I hope that you are feeling better soon. Being sick all the time sucks. Not having any energy to get the simple little everyday things done sucks.
